Child lock

LOCK turns the child lock on and off. While it is on, the dial and the other buttons do nothing, so turning the dial doesn't start the kettle.

Heating

The kettle starts off. Drag the dial past 55 % to start it, the way you would turn an old stovetop knob, or press START.

Presets

PRESET steps through WARM, HOT and BOIL, and back to WARM. The kettle starts on WARM. The child lock ignores it, like every other button.
